SPAY AND NEUTER SERVICES

The spay/neuter van transport runs every second and fourth Tuesday of the month.

The s/n van transport schedule for September will be on September 14 and September 28. The van will be at Clinton Animal Hospital at 6:45 a.m. and leave to go back to Spartanburg at 7:45 a.m. It will return at 5:30 p.m.

The Laurens County HSPCA offers low cost spay/neuter services in conjunction with Animal Allies of Spartanburg. Beginning in 2010, the transport will take place on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays each month. An Animal Allies van will pick up pets with appointments from Clinton Animal Hospital's parking lot at 6:45 am to transport them to Spartanburg. The van will return the pets on the same day at 5:30 PM to the same location.

All animals must have rabies and other required vaccinations. If they have not had required shots, Animal Allies will administer these for $15. The cost of the spay/neutering per animal is as follows: male dog, $57; female dog, $62; dog over 75 lbs, $77; male cat, $32; female cat, $47; feral cat, $45 (this charge includes shots and ear tipping for feral cats only). There is no extra fee for an animal that is in heat or pregnant.

Appointments are necessary and may be made by calling LCSCHSPCA at 984-6484. Speaking clearly, leave you name and telephone number, give the number or cats and dogs you wish to have spayed or neutered, and a day time phone number where you can be reached during normal business hours. Animal Allies will return your call to make the appointment and complete the paperwork. DO NOT CALL CLINTON ANIMAL HOSPITAL about this service as they are not involved with the specifics of the program.

If people with limited income (i.e. on Medicaid, with EBT card, on Social Security Disability, or dependent on Social Security for retirement income) need help in paying the fee to Animal Allies, please Animal Allies about a voucher. One will need to provide proof of limited income to be eligible for voucher assistance.

WHY SPAY/NEUTER IS SO IMPORTANT

  • For each cat that is spayed/neutered, 12 kitten births a year are prevented.
  • For each dog that is spayed/neutered, 16 puppy births a year are prevented.
  • In six years, one female dog and her offspring can produce 67,000 puppies.
  • In seven years, one female cat and her offspring can produce 420,000 kittens.
  • Theoretically, there is NO LIMIT to the number of offspring male dogs and male cats can produce.
  • Every day in the US, tens of thousands of puppies and kittens are born. Compare this to the 11,000 human births, and you can see that there can NEVER be enough homes for all these pets.
